Restoring Damage caused by Arson

There was a signal box on this site and it was erected in 1923 by The Midland Railway. In 1973 the signal box was redundant and donated by British Rail to the fledgling Nene Valley Railway. On dismantling, the structure fell apart, but the lever frame was used for Ortin Mere signal box and is still in use today. Volunteers, Peter Nunn and Elvin Edis asked about rebuilding the signal box as a bird hide and a viewing platform. Perkins Engines Community Fund kindly donated £2000 for the woodwork and A1 Steel donated steel work and this was installed by Shaun Chaffe. BGL Group donated money for the paint and this was carried out by Barry Lee.
