who purchase an entrance ticket for that day.

Railworld Founder
Rev Richard Paten M.A.,C.Eng.,M.I.C.E.
Freeman of the City of Peterborough
August 15th 1932 – July 22nd 2012
Born to Peggy and Harry Paten a Peterborough Business Family, Richard was schooled at Marlborough, did National Service in the Royal Engineers. Obtained an Engineering Degree at Cambridge in 1956, becoming a Chartered Civil Engineer 5 years later, after working for Rhodesia Railways and Halcrow's London on Harbour Design.
Richard trained in Oxford becoming an Anglican Priest in 1963, serving at Oadby in Leicester. Richard then became Community Relations Chaplain and Founder Chairman of the Nene Valley Railway and Subsequently Railworld in 1985! He was the Peterborough Civic Society President, a group that his father started in 1952.

Dean Johnson
Hammersmith School educated then college for HNC Engineering. Started career as a draughtsman at Rolls Royce. I moved to Peterborough in 1972, and in 1985, Adrian Thomas and I started A1 Steel LTD. In 2008 I become a trustee. I have helped the charity develop the globe hall by donating an elliptical mezzanine floor, and a supporting structural frame for the new viewing platform. It is our hope to develop a sustainable community and learning centre for the children of Peterborough and beyond. l look forward to seeing this through to fruition.
Barry Pennill
Barry Pennill, born in Manchester and has lived in Peterborough since 1991. Studied at Loughborough University, then spending the first 10 years of his post-university career with the Midland Bank. He moved on to Thomas Cook Financial Services, as Regional Director, Europe, Middle East & Africa, before moving to Citibank, then Regional Director Europe at MoneyGram. Spending the final part of his career as a Foreign Exchange Consultant. Barry is a past-President of the Rotary Club of Peterborough and a volunteer at the Crocus Cafe dementia support group.
Bernie Tyson -
Bernie brings with him to the Railworld Trustee Board over 40 years’ experience in the Building Supply Industry! Two years ago, Bernie branched out on his own. He has lived in Peterborough all his life, attends Westgate New Church and most active in the Peterborough Community, striving for diversity and inclusion. Bernie is keen to bring his industry knowledge to this Fabulous Environmental venture for his city and will be a valuable team member to this worthwhile cause.
Dr Dorothy Ball
Dorothy has a doctorate in Civil Engineering. Her first involvement was 20 years ago when her son Gordon offered to help out as part of his Duke of Edinburgh Award. Gordon’s project was to mark out our new ‘World’ for Globe Hall – Dorothy has been helping ever since including offering her services as a trustee. Dorothy taught maths and science at Kings School, Peterborough. She has now retired and offers her vast knowledge to help this and many other environmental projects,
Dr Dorothy is also closely associated and very active with the Quaker Movement.
Brian Pearce MBE
Born 1949 – one of 11 children, Grimsby educated, ventured to Peterborough at 16 to gain an apprenticeship a Perkins Engines, Educated to HNC at PRC, spent his entire career at the company, mainly in training. I started helping Rev Richard Paten in 1985 and then in 2009 took early retirement to volunteer full time on the project. - Both Perkins and Parent company Caterpillar have continually helped the Wildlife Haven in so many incredible ways. Look forward to creating a lifelong environmental learning experience for the people of the Anglia Region.
Phillip Marshall
Phil was also a trustee with another local charity and close neighbour – The Nene Valley Railway. Phil brought his vast knowledge and experience to both charities, with a degree in Horticulture, he can be seen regularly on site, working on a variety of tasks from sorting problem trees out to laying drainage or constructing a roof. He organises the NVR Youth Group and has also taken a keen interest in our Swedish Pacific locomotive 996 and has spent many hours investigating its possible restoration to running condition.
